Now we can all nod our heads and make decisions
|
Figured I would start a new thread since the old one was lost. For those of you who don't know I am installing a 2003 Maqch1 engine into my 1966 Mustang Coup. I will be useing the engine, trans, and rear. I will eventually be installing an Eaton on top. This is what the car looked like before the restoration process began. This is what the car looked like at the beginning of the 4.6 install. Installing the Mustang 2 front end from Rod and Custom Motor Sports. Shock towers removed. New crossmember installed. Upper and lower control arms, coil overs, and rack and pinion steering installed. Rotors and steering shaft installed.

The engine has now been pulled back out of the car and is on its stand. We have some minor repairs to do inside the engine bay with the frame rails. My welder has seen how it s going to sit and is ready to weld in the motor mounts when we get the minor repairs done.

I had to take a brake from doing anything due to buying a house and prepping my old house for a renter. I now have a tenant in the house and I am getting back into the groove of getting it done. It turned out to be about a 4 month layoff.

That has been under discussion from the begining. We have talked about it(me and my dad). My dad wants to use it. I want the Eaton. It is my car and I will make the final choice. As of right now it is still up in the air. I don't want to cut the hood then go with the Eaton. But the Eaton will not be going on right away, I have about 80% of the parts for the Eaton install. But right now my main concern is getting it up and running.
But to answer the question, most likely yes.

Eaton > Hood scoop.
But I'm not gonna lie, a shaker scoop would be bad on that car.

That would depend on how high the engine sits in the engine bay.

I spoke to my welder today. I have a tentative date of next sunday to start welding in the engine mounts. Todat I made the sway bar spacers and installed them. I also installed the right rear window track, window, window regulator and window fuzzies. It is not much but very time consuming, considering I had to figure out how it goes together because it was removed 20 years ago. But all forward progress is good.

Yesturday I cut out the old frame rail pieces and fitted the new pieces into place. My welder is supposed to come on wednesday and weld them into place. Here is a pic of the window installed from last week. Frame repairs, we were originally going to just do a quick patch. But then I decided to replace the bad section. The rails were inexpensive at about $35.00 each so it was a better choice, it will look so much better. I could not replace the complete frame rail due to having the sub frame connectors already welded into place. So I just cut out the bad section and fitted the new section into place. I left the good section of the old rail inplace so the car will have a double frame rail for about 4 inches where the unibody comes together. The new section fitted into place on the left side. Right side.

Bright Tangerine 96 GT Coupe: (Arielle) Steeda|Tokico|BBK|Flowmaster you could probably put hypercoated donuts on that car, and it would look good.
That looks 13% faster than the old setup. Learned how to drive in MT winters, snow tires are for pussys.

Hoping to be done in the late spring, early summer. The Pa. Mustang Club has a big show at the end of July. I want to be there.

We are not sure if we are going to install the Eaton yet. We are going to see what kind of traction issues we are going to have. I have a feeling this car is going to be plenty fast enough with out the Eaton. But if I do install the Eaton I have no intention of going over 8-9lbs of boost. man that is sweet you got me thinking of findind a 65-66 and swaping my 95 over to that car how much do you think your car will way
The 65-66 coupes weighed in at about 2800lbs. That is about 1000lbs lighter than the 03/04 Mach1. If I remember right they weighed in at about 3800lbs. That puts the car in mid 12 second range with basic bolt-ons.

I have not had much time to get work done lately. I am going to get down there next sunday (3/2) and get some work done. I will get with my welder to see if he can be there to start with the rear mounts.
It has been extremely busy since August with the new/old house stuff going on. I will be in Florida for work 3/9-3/13. Then in April I am going to Cancun 4/18-4/23. But I need to get cracking on this thing. My July deadline is fast approaching and at this point seems unatainable.

I paid 6k for it. That was last year at this time. The prices may have dropped a bit. I originally wanted a 03/04 Cobra, but they were asking 10k+ for them, and it would have eaten up to much of my budget.

Now we can all nod our heads and make decisions

Finally got some work done yesturday. I pulled the rear end assembly out of the Mach. The car is pretty much completely striped of everything. Only the brake lines and fuel lines remain in the car, and I am going to yank them out to. Especially now that pops has a Mach, you never know what you might need.
Next time I go down we will give the car a once over, then make it go away. I forgot my camera, so no pics this time.
I talked to my welder. We have both been very busy lately and have had no time for welding in the mounts. But we are going to try in 2 weeks to get it done.
