Over this weekend, both Friday and Saturday night, at some point between 12:00 and 2:00 (don't remember exactly when), me and my friends heard a car alarm going off at my apartment complex. After 3 or 4 minutes, it stopped going off, and we didn't think anything of it.

Well, a car alarm just went off again (15 minutes ago). Me and my friends went to see what car it was, and it was mine. So I turn off the alarm, unlock the car (the theft light was on, if that means anything), put the key in, turn it on, turn it back off (theft light goes off), close the door, lock the doors, and head back to my apartment. We won't 20 steps away from the car and the alarm started going off again. So I turned it off again, but this time, I just went ahead and unhooked the battery cable (I didn't want to disturb the neighbors anymore than I already have).

And here I am. I have no idea on why it has done this. I am currently assuming that it was my car alarm going off on Friday and Saturday night. I find it strange that it has just started doing this, and that it has always happened late at night like this. But at the same time, it didn't go off last night?

Anyone have any ideas? Cold weather have something to do with it maybe?

Btw, it doesn't have an aftermarket security system or anything. Just the stock Ford whatever-it's-called.

Learnin not to be a noob.

I had the stock one and it would lock the car with the keys in the ignition... needless to say on the way home on a 30 hour trip it locked the keys in the car in the rain at night. Also needless to say my non-tech savvy dad had the stereo/electrical guys pull the module out.

90% of the time when your alarm starts acting up it has to do with your battery slipping just past the point the alarm can remain stable.  How old is the battery?

Someone on another forum told me the same thing.  It is just around a year old.  Should be fine.  It's never been allowed to drain all the way down, and the weather hasn't been that bad on it.  There's an Advanced Auto a 1/4 mile from my apartment; I'll head over there later today and get them to check it.

I just replaced a battery for the 2nd time in 3 yrs, thank god for the 3 year replacement warranty.  It could just be bad luck but I am willing to bet it has more to do with teh current demands of the stereo I installed.  Even if it tests good it could be on the edge of going bad and falsing the alarm.  Make sure all teh battery connections and the factory ground right next to it are all tight and do not wiggle at all.

I think you guys need to stop by your local shop and see if they can help.

That is unless you know they put these alarms in, then you need to go to the next town.
