You should be able to remove your smog pump without any problems to cats, mpg, etc... You will have a small open tube in your midpipe you will need to either plug up, or bend to prevent air from leaking out.. As far as the EGR goes, that is a completely different system by itself.  For the time being I wouldn't recommend messing with the EGR system, as it can cause the Check Engine Light to come on, as well as potential drivability problems.

Nope.  Not really.  Not unless it's seized up anyway.

not hard remove it and get like a 92 inch belt to bybass it and get 2 9/16 by 1 inch course thread bolts and put 3 flat washers apiece to plug the back of the heads and a couple screws to plug the vaccume lines and you will have 2 get a welding shop to weld up the tube that runs to the factory exaust cost like 10 bucks or you can leave it on and plug the factory rubber hose on the end of it under the hood it really doesnt give you any hp gains but when i did it the motor  seamed to run a little more freely

Don't bypass it. A friend did that and caught his engine on fire from the strain on the alternator. Spend the 50 and get the pulley

My same reaction lol

Bypass it if you don't have cats, it will not harm the alt at all. Mines been bypassed for 6+ months with zero issue.

If this was actually a problem there would be a high failure rate. The fact is there isn't. Also that thread is referring to the fox body belt routing were the tensioner is on top between the Alt and A/C ours is under the Alt and Smog. So even 'if' the bearing loading theory is correct it doesn't change in our application.

probably used a belt that was way to short and forced it on anyway.  And that put to much force on the bearings.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Smog Pump are 2 different things. They do serve some sort of the same function though.

The freed up room around the headers is nice too. My 95 GT had the EGR never touched it but the Cobra had it off when I got it. Considering Roush did all the work on it I'm pretty sure they were not idiots, so as far as I can tell and from how mine runs it has no severe adverse effects.

I removed the egr and smog from my stock motor and it ran perfectly fine for the year it was like that.  The damn smog pump seized on me and all I did was leave it on the car and run a shorter belt and it was good to go.
