Hey all sn95'ers

I have a project I'm into that will last some time.
67 fastback - complete frame up custom.

I've had the car for a few years.  when I got it I wanted to do a Eleanor.
But, since rich "people" can just buy them from Shelby, they're not so cool.
I'm doing something different.

I'm going with a custom look with emphasis on the stock body lines.
Not sure the exact style, something like the Fastforeward, but with my custom touches.
current technology - improved style - high performance..

I built up the motor a year & a half ago, and we (my dad & I) just started the body/suspension

Here's how it started...

The motor.

351 Cleveland, 2 valve.

I got this motor from a guy for 300 bucks.  :D
It looked like a grease soaked dirt clod, but these are hard to find.
and i like the nastalgia that the C has.

It came out of a 72 Toreno.

Had it machined and here's all the parts for assembly:

I spent way too much time polishing the intake manifold,
The hedders are Hooker long tubes, I had them and the IM Hot Jet Coated.  icon_rr

(that valve cover is the only thing I"ve ever bought on ebay to date.  I painted the blue, and cleared them 5 times.)

I wasn't liking the look of the stock cast WP, so I got the Weiland polished, high flow unit, and swapped  it.
I also had to swap to a rear sump pan because of the suspension I'm doing, more on that later.

this is good bc the sump has performance benefits, and the short middle section acts as a windage tray. cheesy

Engine specs.

351 Cleveland.
The 2V has very good low - mid range torque.  which I built onto.
Here's the beef:

bored .030 over, forged pistons - 10.8:1 compression
Crank and rods balanced, new bolts & bearings.

FM cam CS 173R medium overlap, not too agressive, good power range.

I ported the exhaust side of the heads,
had the heads rebuilt with
all new parts, SS valves & a crane roller rocker conversion.

ARP bolts everywhere, Edelbrock rpm manifold.

With this setup I decided to add a little centrifical to help in the mid - top end rpm range,

So, I'm adding a SVO powerdyne supercharger and the snow WM injection.
Keep the timing up for power, and the octain up - bc detonation is BAD.

MDS also makes a BTR - boost timing retard moduel that should work well with it.

That's my plans on the motor, I'm going to make my own brackets for the blower and most
of the accessories, probably have the final brackets cnc'd and powder coated.

I got the March polished alternator and they're brackets for it.
I bolted it up before swapping the WP and pan to c how it looked.

Looks good onthere.

I'll be running that and the power steering off a v-belt off the crank.
the rest will run off a serpentine in front of that.
pulleys and brackets forthcoming....

If anyone's done this before, i'd appreciate some advice.

That's where I am on the motor,

Here's a pic of the mach up - it will need to be higher....
I couldn't sleep one night & I wanted to see what it would look like.
It will be mounted higher, but you get the idea.

Here's the progress on the car.

The interior was so rotted, I just rolled it up and threw it all in the dumpster.
(not the plastic parts)

The stock suspension isn't up to my preformance "desire".
Body roll, leaf springs.... ect.
So it's all gone.

The body I had bead blasted, and we started on the front end.

Props to Autoworks.cc on this.
they have been very helpfull and know they're stuff.
I bought this kit from them.
Coil over conversion plus.

Benefits: correct caster / camber
strengthens the front end & sub frame of the car.
Rack & pinion steering
Mustang2 size spindel that will accept
current 5 lug wheels & current brakes!!!!
Coil overs,
and I got the 2" spindel drop option.
It will look bad a*s sittin low.

So we tore into that.

I love the wide open engine bay.

Heres a shot after I cut out the towers, then we drilled out the spot welds, and removed
the overlaping metal around the tower and on the frame rail.

I'm supprised how flimsy the metal is around the bay and sides...

Ok, to do the bottom of the car, we made a rotissery, or pig roaster for it.

Started with a bunch of channel and 2 pieces of pipe.
bought 4 casters.

The body is so light, this isn't real heavy duty, just 3" channel, and some hot welds.

we dropped the rear end, and took out the steering column and brake stuff.
She's naked now.

I dont have the tool to remove the column from the gearbox, so
my sawzall did the trick.

Up she goes.

Now we can do some quality work on the bottom!

Thanks guys.

Chassis flex is bad, so I'm connecting the sub frames, in the floor,
and will fab up an external to go full length.

After we notched the floor, we leveled the front, braced it and checked the back.
it is right on.
This is good, means the car has never been hit, and the chassis is right on.

(that's my dad)
He's awsome, and this will be a fun project to do together.

BTW, here's the #'s on this motor setup.
450 HP at the flywheel.
add the powerdyne at 8# of boost.
This combo should have 660 at the flywheel
23% drivetrain loss = 515 at the rear wheels.   ;D

Transmission.

We want an automatic..... mostly.
So we need one that can take 660HP.

But we want overdrive BC this car will see plenty of highway time.

So, the C4 & C6 are out.

We opted to go with an aod, built up with more clutches, forged parts, cooler ect.
similar to Lentech dominator specs.

To set the motor mounts, we have to stick it in there bolted up...
That's what we did last sat.

Gotta love R&P steering!!!!

You guys have a good week!

Yeah, one suggestion,    do your homework on blowthrough carbureted engines.  And swap the pistons cause with 8# of boost with 10.8:1 compression you're gonna be picking up your rods/pistons off the ground.  You might be able to get away with 6# if you're lucky.  You must get an adequate fuel system, such as a sumped tank and I recommend aeromotive parts such as the A1000 pump and I believe a 13204 regulator with boost reference.  If you need help with it just ask, my brother and I did carbed SBC with a T76 making about 600hp at the wheels.  There is a lot of work that people overlook with boosted carbed engines.

Thanks ForceFed
I appreciate practical feedback.

On the boost.  yes you're right.    My rods are the weakest parts, i'm estimating 650 flywheel for them.
The pistons are forged, and should be fine.

At this elevation, an 8# pulley is actually about 5.5#
I'm also adding WMI, to keep the detonation risk low.
that's what blows up engines.
The BTR will also be helpfull for this risk.

I haven't got into the fuel system yet.
when we get to that point - I'll ask you some more questions.
thanks for the recommend.

We are going to fab our own bigger, aluminum fuel tank - should be a nice touch.

What engine combo did you and your bro work on?

What engine combo did you and your bro work on?

355Ci Small block chevy, forged rotating assembly, custom comp turbo cam,  CSU modified 650cfm Holley.  We have a Precision T76 with a T4 exhaust mount.  The only thing holding it back is the turbo manifolds, we should have made some headers, but we had the manifolds ready to use.  His fuel system is a work of art. A1000 pump and filters -10 an line to the regulator and -8 an return line, dual feed from the regulator to carb.  The fuel system can support about 1200hp.  We've never actually dynoed it, but the truck has enough power at 10psi to smoke his 12.5 slicks through second gear.  When the turbo spools it feels like a semi hits you in the rear at about 50mph.  When you get close,  I can give you some tips to building your fuel system.  Whatever you do though, get a carb from CSU, if you try to use the stock carb you'll crush your floats in no time.

Sounds like a fun project.

I was looking at the Deamon 750 blow through.

I like the blow throuh design because you're not pressurizing the float and all that.

What is CSU - I'd like to look into it.

Don't touch any so called supercharger carbs, they're made for draw through roots blowers.  CSU may be expensive, but well worth it.  Also,  you can send in a carb you  have to be modded for a lower price than buying one outright.

Now we can all nod our heads and make decisions

Where did you get that front suspension set up from? I like it, it looks alot better than the original shock towers. I love the room it gives you in the engine compartment. I may do somthing like that on my 66 coup if it is not to cost prohibitive.

The front suspension I got from autoworks.cc - it's made by Rod & Custom Motorsports.
Great current design with the coil overs, current spindels for current wheels and brakes.
Steering & suspension geometry is all way better.  I got the 2" spindel drop option too.
the older mustangs look bad a*s slammed.

the wide open bay is very cool too.

I know that feeling.

Thanks for the info on the front end. Opening up the engine bay like that is awsome. With a 1966 I am very restrickted as to what engine I can use. Open it up like that and the wallet is the limit not the room under the hood.

Did you get the whole set up #3? That seems to be the best way to go. I was going to do a disc conversion on my 66 Coup. That set up alone is about $1000.00 alone. For the extra $1500.00 it would be stupid not to do the rest of it.
