Parts Availability

Hi folks, I live in Scotland, UK and have a 94 5.0, garage people here are telling me that some parts are now completely unavailable, esp suspension components etc and that I should consider selling the car on as repairs in the future might be impossible. Seems strange to me, so far I haven’t needed to do much to it and CJ pony parts and Rock auto have been able to get me what I need. So my question is, what’s peoples view on parts availability for this model? Am I being blagged by garage people? All views welcome, thanks all, John

There are more and more parts that are getting harder to find(coolant cross-over tubes on the motor for example on 94/95) but that is not to say that there are places to find hard to find things. This place is one of them. Anyone that was trained to work in a garage in the past 20 years has probably been taught if they can't find it in their parts list that it is impossible to find and if they can't sell you something from that, your not a a customer. My dad came home from the dealership a few months back after a routine oil change and said they were recommending new tires. My dad has to be one of the slowest drivers I know, he hardly uses his brakes he is going so slow so I went out and checked the wear indicators and found they had PLENTY of tread on them and the dealership was just trying to make a sale.

Depends on how resourceful you are. Yes, certain parts have been discontinued but the aftermarket is filling the void. The Mustang is still a very popular car so I don't see it going obsolete anytime soon. I can still get plenty of parts for my '88 Mustang.

I think what the garage is referring to is ONLY the OEM parts. For instance, if you needed an OE coil spring that part is long gone. But there are plenty of replacements in the aftermarket market for OE replacements and performance upgrades.

Rockauto has a huge selection. Also check out Late Model Restoration and National Parts Depot has a LOT of NOS and obscure parts for these cars.

Yes, I see what you mean, I’m not bothered at all about OEM parts as long as I can get aftermarket Parts, I’ll be happy! My garage man seemed to think that the 94 was particularly vulnerable to parts shortage. I’d be happy to keep it, it’s been a great car and a joy to drive, I’d hate to have to sell it.

also in case you find a part but they are unwilling to ship international, I would have helped others here abroad get parts by having it shipped to me and then I reship it to them. The only thing we need to work around is that I am disabled from GI problems that when they flare up(weekly) I am stuck in my house for a day or maybe four where I can't get out.

There are some parts you'd have to get truly resourceful on like the cable for the cruise control.. but there's people keeping much older and more uncommon cars on the road it just depends if it's worth it to you. No shame if that's not for you, then sell it to someone who wants that job

Hello, JohnnyMac and welcome! Part Scot here (Stuart clan) with work and dress kilts alike!
Let’s start with this: What part(s) are you looking for right off? Maybe I or someone else here can help.

Cheers,

That very kind, thank you. In fact, I’m lucky to have cousins who live in LA and Arkansas, so that base is covered !

Hi, at the moment I’m fine for parts, I’ve just replaced brake lines and finally got round to the handbrake upgrade, that’s when the garage advised that in their opinion, parts are going to be an issue for my 94. I’m kind of just generally scoping to see what the parts situation is like, so far Rock auto and CJ have always had everything I’ve needed, but the garage has kind of worried me with his comments….he’s an american car specialist here which is what’s making me wonder !

well they are not wrong parts are harder to find than for a modern car short of a new cybertruck or something. There are a few parts specific on the 94/95 5.0 but as they said most of them can be found/reconditioned if you know where they are or how and this is the place to find out where or how.

Welcome.

I might be wrong, but I think SN95s are going to get more popular in the next years. I think as older generations are getting more expensive and difficult to acquire, peopke will turn to SN95s. It might also motivate some aftermarket companies to fill the demand for parts.
Or not. We'll see. But if you like your car, just keep it and you will find a way to keep it on the road if you want.

I could do with an external A pillar garnish I think it’s called, I had to remove it to put a new windshield in and it cracked in several places…..it’s for the drivers side on an LHD. I would take a pair actually as the other one didn’t reattach properly as I had to drill it out .

I’m scouring junkyards and eBay Motors for you. In the meantime, have you posted a thread in the WTB section of this and other similar Forums? Also look in the For Sale sections of this and other Forums.
I’ll let you know if I find something.

I left a message with Dynacorn International.com They are 10 minutes from my hose, so if they have them AND they do ship Internationally, I’ll let you know and you can contact them directly. If they don’t ship, I can get them for you and I’ll ship them to you for cost. Happy to do a fellow Scot a favor!
Meantime…

I checked further into their website to find they have a subsidiary called Golden Leaf Automotive in Canada. They may ship Internationally, I don’t know but you can check.

Thank you very much Daryl, that’s really great, I’ll look into the Canada side, I’ve got a friend who lives out there, so that might work too. Many thanks again from a wet and cold Argyll !
