You asked for it. I used to have things a lot more squared away when I was in a shop. When I changed careers, my tools all had to come home. Now Im at home and have children that need something every 5 minutes so the tools don’t get out away like they should.

“We’re not worthy”.

I have a meager selection of tools compared to you guys. My parents bought me a Craftsman “mechanics tool set” for Christmas when I was 16 (about 40 years ago) that is still the foundation of my collection. I have since added a lot of stuff, some craftsman, some Lowe’s house brand, some H.F. I tend to limit the H.F. stuff to stuff like hammers, pry bars, breaker bars, and the like. Have some Pittsburgh deep wall impact sockets which have served me ok in limited use. Also haves Chicago electric 1/2 “ impact gun.

My entire socket set is craftsman from one of those same mechanics sets. Never broken a socket, extension, or ratchet in 10 years

I’ve got sockets and wrenches from all the brands, the only harbor freight stuff I’ve broken is my swivel impact sockets and a 10mm deep impact socket. I can’t ever get enough of my snap on tools though. Work will stop if I can’t find my favorite snap on 3/8” ratchet lol.

The new line of tools that harbor freight is carrying looks really promising though. The wrenches and ratchets feel real similar to the snap on stuff.

The icon stuff? I've seen some promising reviews on them. I really just dont see the need for professional grade stuff in the diy garage though.

Small chest has screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets separated into SAE and metric plus a drawer of just pliers. Big chest has angle grinder, drill, tap and die sets (SAE and metric), micrometer, scrapers, auto testing tools, files, tubes of gasket makers/threadlockers, pry bars and hammers, nuts and bolts divided (kinda) by SAE and metric. Workbench has a drill press and bench vise, grinder is on a stand next to it. Back table has jacks and jack stands with engine hoist and engine stand next to it and overhead is the radiant gas heater. Yeah, its kinda cluttered, but I'm doing a big yard project and haven't had time to get it straightened out like I like. Garage is 24x32, insulated, gas and electricity.

That’s it! I couldn’t remember the name, I just remember when I was in the store last time, I was checking them out and they look good. I agree and disagree on the professional tools in a home garage. I know what that stuff cost, but the quality is really really nice. Having a ratchet that you can put some force on and not worry if it’s going to slip, or using a good socket that you don’t have to worry about it rounding off a bolt head. Those are the little comforts you get with better tools.
